A young boy creates a make believe world to escape his truth, a world where, at the water's edge, beneath the shade of an ancient tree, a mother forms a perimeter to protect herself and her child from an unspeakable darkness.

Boyan meets Albena. Boyan has a bruised eye, Albena has a dead dog on her arms.
When Boyan goes to Albena's office to receive his fee he meets a strange and detached middle aged woman. As there is a problem with the payment they have to go to the bank together, despite their obvious dislike for one another. On the way though events change - Albena's dog is very sick and she needs to decide whether to put it to sleep or not. Suddenly Boyan becomes the only witness of her struggle. But will he get involved in such a private matter with a stranger? Especially in a time when all he wants is to get his money he urgently needs for something?

When Buck comes through the fence and becomes stuck, Davy removes the collar. Even though the boy tells him to stay in his owner's yard, the dog follows him home.

Truck drivers Steve Hackett and Bill Purvis are fired from their jobs with the West Coast Trucking company for not using second-gear going down steep grades. Davis, the company vice-president, surprisingly asks them to carry a load of merchandise to Arrowhead and offers a $1000 bonus. He tells them it is a load of lettuce. Several miles out of Los Angelese, they are stopped by a mob of lettuce-farm workers on strike. When the first crate is tossed off the truck, it explodes and the two pals learn their merchandise is a cargo of dynamite. The workers let them proceed and they crash into a car driven by Mary Stevens, whom they had met at a restaurant. She and her dog, "Butch" (played by a Credited dog named Stooge), join them and they deliver their cargo, and learn unscrupulous real-estate operators have jammed the locks on the dam in order to ruin the ranchers and farmers and take over their property.
