Also, a highly-anticipated Bellator Season 6 Bantamweight Tournament Semifinal fight will take place as Luis Nogueira will square off against Hiroshi Nakamura while Rich Clementi will meet Derek Campos in a lightweight contest. Additionally, the Bellator Season 6 Lightweight Tournament will be decided as Rick Hawn takes on Brent Weedman. Both men showed the other vast amounts of respect ahead of their fight on Friday night. “I’m looking forward to fireworks,” said Weedman. “This is the toughest opponent I’ve had in my career. We’re going to put on a show for the fans in New Orleans.”

A light heavyweight bout between former UFC Light Heavyweight Championship challenger Glover Teixeira and Jimi Manuwa was expected to serve as the event headliner. However, Teixeira pulled out on August 14 due to a shoulder injury. He was replaced by Thiago Santos. In turn, Manuwa pulled out on September 16 due to a torn hamstring and was replaced by Eryk Anders.

However, on March 15, Bellator announced the fight had been pushed back a week to Bellator 62 due to Prindle having "flu-like symptoms." This event marked the first time that Bellator Fighting Championships aired in Brazil on TV Esporte Interativo.

Santos, however, failed to make weight and the bout was cancelled, and Prindle was awarded the tournament win by default. A scheduled fight between Cosmo Alexandre and Oscar de la Parra was also scrapped.
