Girls in Summer Dresses: Hiroshima, August 6, 1945

In 1945, the second- and third-year students of a Hiroshima girls' school are taken away to work in war factories. The remaining 220 girls of the first year try to make the best of their new-found status as the only teenagers in an almost deserted town, even amid the deprivations of wartime. On the seventh of August, an American bomber changes their lives forever. Broadcast on the 43rd anniversary of Hiroshima in memory of "the girls who lost their lives to the atom bomb." In 2010 the Freedom Flotilla attempts to break the Israeli blockade of Gaza. In international waters the flotilla is attacked by the Israeli army and 9 people are killed. 9 anonymous people. But the dead still have a name. In 2014 Gaza is attacked by Israel. 2131 Palestinians are killed, among them 513 children. 513 dead children. But the dead children still have names. The film is about a Jewish person who has made a political journey from the Vietnam war to Gaza. This person is the paediatrician Henry Ascher, who lost his fathers entire family in the Holocaust.

It took only one night and a day. A night and a day to completely destroy what had been built up over centuries. Dresden, the Florence of the Elbe, a baroque work of art and one of the last cities, which had left by the bombing during the Second World War is still largely intact, sank in just 12 hours in rubble. At least 30,000 people were in a terrible fire storm end. The film depicts an example of the fate of the victims of this attack, the fate of Dresden but also that of the pilots, the fates of the survivors and those who could not escape the flames. He observed at the same time as it is happening in the British headquarters, the "Bomber Command". As a historical "real-time reportage" accompanies this award-winning documentary (Emmy Award-2005) with elaborate productions, the last 36 hours, in which Dresden, went back and put the audience into the events of the last months of World War II.
