It is first published in 1957 in Italia and the author receives the Nobel Prize in Literature in 1958, which has consequences.

The star of this film, Utaemon Ichikawa, gained enormous popularity for his portrayal of a cheerful and chivalrous man.

She also rejects the idea of arranged marriages and believes in a woman's right to a career and to marry for love.
